A Human Barometer

Date: 2013-01-23 19:15:35

Sometimes I feel kike I'm a "human barometer"! Tonight is a good example. I felt pretty good all day until around 5:00 and all of a sudden I've got all sorts of aches and pains and my whole mood has changed. Went from a good mood to WAY out of sorts!
Turns out, according to the weather service, we're in for another rainy weekend. Good thing we don't have anything planned.
As I get older, my body seems to be getting better at predicting the weather, sometimes almost a week out. Interesting.
I feel like I want to be near a nice, warm fireplace.

*Sips wine* (Cheap burgundy tonight) ;)

Diet is going well, with a few exceptions. Seems I've lost about three pounds since I started. (No, I didn't just use the restroom, smart ass!)
Interestingly, I find one of the hardest parts for me is eating enough carbs! I never thought THAT would be a problem.
Actually, it's more getting used to not relying on white carbs and using more foods with a low glycemic index e.g. whole grains etc.
I think my dietician may be hell bent determined to break me of the red meat habit. Well, it ain't gonna happen baby! Lol!

Just renewed my hunting license for 2013. The wife seems to think I should get out in the desert hunting more often.
I guess I'll go out next week and see if I can get some nice cottontails or stewing jacks. Yum! ;)
At least I'll be getting some exercise! Lol!
If any of y'all want a good rabbit recipe, feel free to email me.

That's about it for now.

Cheers and stay healthy!

Weekend Eve!

Date: 2013-01-17 18:52:58

The wife and I are starting the weekend early (Thursday night)mainly because we feel we deserve it! Lol!
She's gonna take tomorrow AND Monday off. Yay!

*Sips bourbon* Yeah, that's right...Jim Beam at that!

One of my devoted readers has recommended a diet book that she feels I should read. "Eat to Live" by Joel Fuhrman, M.D.
I immediately researched his entire life and career and couldn't peg him as one of the usual diet quacks so I might actually give it a read.

My usual reading material is no more than 50-75 pages with colorful graphic images so this will be a step up. :)

*Sucks down more bourbon* (I'll stop when I can no longer spell berban.....I mean bourbon!

It feels good to have a little break from the stress of waiting for PSA results. It may not always be good news but this time it was and I'm gonna make the most of it!

General Update

Date: 2013-01-16 20:30:31

Saw Dr. Y, the rad. onc. today for a routine follow-up. He was delighted with the PSA numbers. If all goes well, I won't see him again for six months.
I asked him if in his experience, did he feel the numbers would continued to go down and he said yes. Lets hope he's right.

I am also now under the supervision of a registered dietician who is going to direct my progress on a standard diabetic diet.
No quick weight loss scheme this time. She really wants to see a life change. I have A LOT of weight to lose and it looks like that's the only way I'm gonna do it.

Still trying to figure out whether I have a kidney stone issue or not. Pain was gone for about a week and now it's back, just nowhere near as bad. If it keeps up for more than another week or gets worse I'll probably get Dr. K involved.

That's all the news that's fit to print right now.

A Little Good News...Finally!

Date: 2013-01-10 19:57:01

Got the results of Monday's PSA test back today.
PSA has gone from 0.4 before radiation to 0.2 on Monday.
It's been about three weeks since the last treatment. It seems we are going in the right direction and I am cautiously optimistic.

*Sips BEER!!!*

This IS NOT a guarantee of a complete, permanent cure but it's a hell of a lot better then what I was envisioning!

If all goes as planned, the PSA will continue to drop to zero over the next few months.
I will be seeing Dr. Y, the RO on Wednesday and will hopefully have more information at that time.

This Is An Important Week

Date: 2013-01-07 19:54:53

Well, this is the week we've been waiting for. I a couple of days, I get the results of my 2nd PSA which I just had drawn today.
Now we'll see if the 35 radiation treatments did their job!
If the numbers ARE going up, I guess we will still have to wait ANOTHER three months before we take any action.
The waiting and worrying are killing me faster than the disease.

It floors me that I might not even get a few years before biochemical failure. We may have lost control of this thing already!

The next entry will be the numbers with commentary.
