Supplemental Friday Entry

Date: 2013-08-16 18:56:24

Doc was very pleased with my progress. Looks like I might get a break from doctors for a few weeks!
I even might be able to have a little more food!

*Sips a little bourbon*

Well, I'm gonna go, have a little dinner and watch 'The Godfather' with the wife.
More later.

Cheers!

Diabetes Update

Date: 2013-08-16 13:52:16

It would appear that all the hard work getting my diet in shape for the diabetes actually paying off. Got some lab work back yesterday and my cholesterol that is my total cholesterol is way down to 216 from somewhere around 250 plus.
Actually, all my values were down which is what we're trying to do. My a1c was 6.1.

I've got an appointment with my doctor at 3 o'clock today to talk about the diabetes and see how we're progressing with it.

I'm really not having this much trouble staying on the diet properly so I thought I was going to. I figured I was going to really miss the large portions but after a couple weeks it seems like my stomach is getting a little smaller and I don't require the huge portions I was originally eating.

More this evening after I get done with the appointment. Maybe I'll have a little bit more good news.

Cheers!

A Long Hot Weekend

Date: 2013-08-10 17:33:50

It's hot as snot outside right now so I'm spending as much time inside as possible. I really should be out walking but the combination of heat and humidity really saps my energy.

A bit of good news. My glucose levels are coming down nicely due to my wife doing most of the cooking and 500mg of Metformin every day.
Around three weeks ago I had an average of over 200. Now I'm running an average of 125 to 130.
I see the doc this coming Friday. We'll see what she has to say then.

No news on the cancer front, thank goodness!

I shaved my goatee today just for shits and giggles. I do extreme things like that once in a great while, mainly for the adrenaline rush of living on the edge. Perhaps I'll end the day in a climactic fashion by trimming my nose hairs!

I can't believe it but I just had a computer crash and had to rewrite ALL of this entry!
That's what I get for composing online instead of on the WP. That'll teach me...probably NOT!!!! ;)

*Long Sigh*

Wow! The wife just made some roasted garlic and it's DELICIOUS! It's her first try at making it.
This is a keeper with a lot of uses.

Well, that's about it for now. Time to see if there's a decent movie on TV tonight. (I doubt it!)

Cheers!

More Monday Musings

Date: 2013-08-05 18:33:54

Just finished washing all the dishes from last night and sauteing a bunch of peppers and mushrooms. The wife is making a meatloaf tonight, one of her specialties and I'm really looking forward to it.

We're both looking forward to a cozy night. We're just going to sit in front of the TV and watch a movie, one of the things we do best at our age!
We're going to be watching War Games 2.

Well, the wife just pulled in from Costco and it's time to go and help prepare dinner. More later.

Cheers!

Monday Thoughts

Date: 2013-08-05 16:43:46

Well, here it is Monday again. Today I actually had a job cleaning somebody's pool. It was a great day for it, mainly because it was overcast and only about 95 degrees. Really can't get much better than that weather wise!

You know, it has occurred to me that the readers of this diary actually get the best of both worlds. You get to read about two diseases, cancer and diabetes! What could possibly be more exciting than that? I'm not really sure now what to call this. Should I continue to call it the battle begins or should I call it adventures in diabetes or something of the like? Yes I'm trying to be amusing and failing miserably, lol!

Actually, it was very good to get out and do something today for a change! I've almost forgotten what going to work is like.
I've always got to try to keep in mind that pretty much any kind of activity is actually very good for both my conditions so I really need to try to keep it up on a semi-regular basis at least.

As far as the diabetes goes, my the glucose levels are stabilizing and coming down to relatively normal areas at least for someone having this particular disease.

Every night I continue to discover what a wonderful cook my wife is! I wonder how I missed that over the past 20 years or so.
She is doing an excellent job regulating my meals! It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it!

Well not too much to say this evening. Kinda tired after doing the pool so I'm going to sit back and relax and do my usual web surfing .
Yes, I promise to stay out of trouble!

Cheers!

It's Weekend Eve Again!

Date: 2013-08-02 17:00:27

Well, it's the weekend again. I'm still trying to get used to dictating the diary on my smartphone instead of typing!
It's really a lot faster this way but I'm not quite used to it yet.

Good news on the health front is that I'm still sticking to the diabetic diet with the help of my wife. She is now doing all the cooking and portioning . It seems that if I do that I can't stick to the routine. It works for a week or two but then I get totally out of hand and that's not good for me or the sugar!

I forgot whether I mentioned this but I'm also trying to walk 3 days a week. It's a little bit tough because I'm still so overweight and the other day I wound up walking three and a half miles and almost killed myself! I was around 104 degrees that day and even though I had water with me I was exhausted by the time I got back. My wifes boss has a treadmill at the office and I'm thinking of using that during the hot summer months. It's probably a little more boring but then it gets boring just walking down to the other end of the street and back again. I'm one of those people that needs a lot of variety and you don't get that running the same circuit everyday if you know what I mean, lol!
The weight is starting to go down, but painfully slowly! I suspect we're probably looking at a half pound a week or less!

It looks like we're going to have another non eventful weekend, maybe a little rain on Saturday. The Weather Service is saying there's about a 10 percent chance Saturday night.
It would be a good thing if we got some rain. We're about halfway through the monsoon season and we still need a lot of rain. Sort of par for the course the way it's been through the past decade . We just don't get rain out here like we used to.

Well, that's about it for this evening. Time to go have a cocktail and get supper ready . Actually, I should say time to go help wife get dinner ready! She's at Curves right now and will be back in about 20 minutes or so.

Cheers!
