New Research? Maybe!

Date: 2013-02-27 20:44:22

Saw this new virus tx they are working on. The virus goes in and that's it = cancer is neutralized.

Would be the sort of breakthrough that changes the game for PCa. Phase I trials on humans will start soon after the animals.

This is exciting. There hasn't been any good news as far as real progress in PCa treatment goes in a LONG while.
I'm going to keep on top of this and see where it goes.
This would be especially significant for those of us who have failed 1st and 2nd line treatments.

A word of warning though. This site is UK based and sadly, they are FAR behind us in research and development in the medical field. We should be sharing information as it becomes available but, as I understand it, we are not.
This also applies to Australian research.
Hopefully, we will eventually learn to share the wealth.

Cheers!

Back To The Real World Again

Date: 2013-02-18 20:16:13

Well, it's time to get back to the real world again. The wife and I had another nice, long weekend doing fun stuff but now it's back to reality.

We saw 'The Hobbit' this afternoon. I would recommend it but don't expect what you read in the book. This is the latest re-make and does not follow the original storyline in any way. That being said, it is still fairly well done and features a number of the original characters.

*Turns over computer to alter-ego*

The diet is going very well and I'll have another weight update on Wednesday for all of you out there holding your breath.

Seems I type better when I'm sober. I had previously thought the opposite! Lol!

Gonna make this short tonight. We've got to get up early and get the cat to the vet for a checkup.

Cheers!

I said in the last entry that I would report my weight loss since restarting the ketogenic diet approx. one week ago so here it is.
As of Wednesday, I have gone from 286lbs. on 02/06/ to 278 on 02/12 for a loss of 8 lbs. See, I CAN do higher math! Lol!

I will continue to report my progress on a weekly basis.

Cheers!

Friday Update

Date: 2013-02-08 18:38:30

According tto my last post, I thought I might have a touch of the "Atkins Flu". Not so, it seems. I may have been a local weather change.
I would have been surprised if it HAD been AF because I've been eating this way long enough for my body to be used to the conversion.

*Sips...nothing* *Chuckles to himself*

I had to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor yesterday. I was the second time I've had to do that. Doc is ALWAYS convinced that my BP is high at home even though I've provided numbers which prove otherwise.

Oh well!

I continue to eat somewhere around 1700 kcal/day. I check my weight once a week and I'll be posting it this Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Cheers!

Been A While!

Date: 2013-02-06 19:40:12

Hello...anyone out there?

Been a while since I posted anything...about two weeks, I guess. Consider yourselves blessed. ;)

Things are going well, so far. I think I mentioned in one of my last posts that I was seeing a dietician to help with weight loss. That has been put on the back burner for awhile. We had a consultation and I liked her a lot but I can't work with the high carb diet she wants me to use. I am used to low carb dieting (Atkins style)which I find relatively easy and extremely effective. When I try it her way, I wind wind up eating 3000-4000 kcal/day just to stay satisfied. With the low carb approach, I eat about 1700 and feel great.

All that being said, I'm going through a little bout of 'Atkins Flu' right now which should pass shortly. That sometimes occurs when the body switches to burning ketones as opposed to glucose.

Anyway, when I talked to the dietician regarding a ketogenic diet as opposed to a high carb/low fat diet, she said her main issue was the high fat content of keto. When I pointed out to her that my best labs ever were when I was on Atkins induction, she said "I don't have an answer for you". I hope she'll research this more so we can talk!

After the unsuccessful meeting with the dietician, I ran the whole thing by my PA (Physician's Assistant)and she's good with it.
We'll see where things are lab-wise in three months.

One good side effect of this type of diet is that I drink no alcohol at all because doing so is generally incompatible with the chemistry of the diet.

Tomorrow, I have to wear a 24hr. blood pressure monitor to see what my waking/sleeping average is. I've done this before and it's really no big deal. I'll just have to stop surfing porn while I'm wearing it! ;)

We're looking forward to a quiet weekend. We'll go the Chinese New Year celebration at the Chinese Cultural Center on Saturday then maybe a movie. Sunday we coach at the trap & skeet range. We'll greet the New Year and encounter happiness.

Cheers!
